Santo Cuviso: A spirit born from story, land, and destiny
In 1756, the Jesuit Ignaz Pfefferkorn encountered in Sonora an ancestral agave remedy the Ópata people called Cuviso: a cure for all ailments. A sacred remedy. Centuries later, that story gave life to Santo Cuviso—a spirit conceived as a tribute to tradition, resilience, and craftsmanship. Its path changed in 2019, when a Sonoran native—Javier Oroz—found a bottle in Los Angeles, sparking a connection that would lead it back to its true origin. Santo Cuviso found its home in Rancho San Isidro, a family legacy spanning over four generations in the mountains of Sonora, where bacanora was once crafted in secrecy from wild agave during prohibition. From this encounter, Casa Santeros was born: a project that honors the land, preserves its native genetics, and shapes new generations of master distillers. Today, with expressions such as Santo Pecado and Santo Prohibido, and a presence across Mexico, the United States, Europe, and Asia, Santo Cuviso is more than a spirit—it is identity, origin, and legacy. Rooted in the desert and driven by passion, Santo Cuviso stands as one of the most emblematic agave spirits in Mexico.
